The Vanuatu Association of Non-Government Organization (VANGO) was founded in 1991 and is the national umbrella organisation for all NGOs and CBOs operating in Vanuatu. Before then the organisation was known as the National Komuniti Development Trust. It was established to promote collaboration and support among NGOs in the country. VANGO helps coordinate efforts among NGOs to ensure the delivery of services is efficient, effective and targeted. VANGO advocates for issues central to the development and welfare of communities in Vanuatu and provides a collective voice for NGOs in policy discussions and promotes awareness on various social, economic and environmental issues. VANGO offers training and resources to enhance the capabilities of member organisations, and provides a platform for NGOs to connect with each other and collaborate on projects and initiatives. VANGO also acts as a hub for information and knowledge related to the NGO sector in Vanuatu, including updates on regulations, funding opportunities, and sectoral trends. VANGO plays a crucial role in strengthening the NGO sector in Vanuatu and improving the impact of non-governmental initiatives in the community.

VANGO contributes to the NGEP’s strategic aim of strengthening the foundation of gender mainstreaming through their work and involvement with cultivating and supporting NGOs in the community. VANGO has also established a gender and human rights committee to advise all CSOs working in that area. Additionally, VANGO’s activities and operations run in all of Vanuatu’s islands.
